Color theory plays a large role in saltwater fly-tying patterns. Subtle or overt changes in material color on the same pattern can result in completely different baitfish limitations. If you find that a pattern was working great and then suddenly stopped working, it's time to change up the colors. In this video, Coby goes into this theory and ties up one variant of his ever-popular Boogie Minno...

would you suggest the talavera type j for striped bass fishing at the shore/pier?
It depends on the shore/pier. It would be great for a jigging rod right off a pier, but if you are casting lures check out the Teramar series rods.
Tried every reel and rod combo there is to try from Bull bay to crowder to penn to Dark Matter to UglyStiks. To Penns to Shimanos to Daiwas to Van Staals. You name it, I’ve tried it. Still haven’t found a better, more budget friendly inshore combo than a Shimano Stradic 3000. Paired on a 7’ Ninja Tackle Dagger “do it all” inshore Rod. Really does do it all. Best Rod/reel combo I’ve ever set up.
We say can't go wrong with a stradic to someone at least once a day. They really are an amazing reel for the price.
Is the price in USD?😊
yes it is
WTF IS MA RI? TRY USING WORDS😢
That is the abbreviation for massachusetts and rhode island
@@SaltwaterEdge Ah the Untied States of Achronims. They simplified English in the early 1900s for the Rednecks and Hillbillies and you lot are still trying to make words 100 years later .
You forgot the feathers
Hi you can see the feathers tied in around the 2:37 mark
Penn spinfisher 6 not 4
You should give me one for free lol
I don’t see the 300 size reel on your website
Bill you are hands down "The Best" ! I still have the map you gave me at a talk you gave 18yrs ago and it is spot on.
I am looking at either the Surf Machine or The Weapon. I will be using it primarily at inlets (high current) in Florida and off the beach for Snooks and Reds. Which rod would work better for this application? Thanks
Surf machine is going to have a bit more stiffness and backbone to handle high currents, thanks!
Great info. I see this a few years old. Any update in technology? I am in NE and mainly fish for Stripers (Jigging on East End LI Orient/SouthShore), Ocean Fluke, Seabass, Blacfish, Porgies. Would like a great all-around casting rod. Have been seeing lots of Slow Pitch setups. what would you recommend?
Are you interested in a slow pitch style rod or would you like a more traditional conventional setup?
@@SaltwaterEdgeI kind of want to try slow pitch setup. Was looking at a Dark Matter Jig and Bounce Casting rod for Ocean use. It would be paired up with an Avet SX or Daiwa Lexus 300 series. Most of my fishing is out of Orient Point or South shore of long island. All inshore. The boat captain had a beautiful Slow Pitch custom rod with Daiwa Saltiga 10h. Pulled up a 20lb bass with ease TIA
We don't have any experience with the dark matter rods but a few great options would be the Jigging Worlds Nexus and ODM Jigster SPJ
Sorry for a silly question. Is inshore fishing the same as surf cast fishing on the beach?
Sometimes! Usually inshore fishing is done inside of bays and estuaries using lighter tackle and lures than you would find surfcasting
Thanks for the info
Thank you. Very informatjvd
Thank you both. Nice job Peter! (& Congratulations)
just ordered 3 z fin big game lures and the 10 inch big game sand eel color for tuna this season. hoping for a good one this year, already caught a slot recreational size on our first outing. tight lines capt!
great to hear!
I took a couple of casting lessons with John a few years ago. I got my copy of his book a few weeks ago. Love it!
Great to hear!
Interesting
Excellent talk and overview- appreciate it much - Thanks <><
what size reel this video?
Vs200

Try combo … rigged ball jig as sinker for 3-way with rigged single hook on top …. a tasty offering!!
Sounds like a great rig!
How about a needlefish lure demonstration?
That’s a great idea!
Great video and I will try the rigs out.'
Awesome, thanks for the info.
Never rigged this way but now understand why i wasn't catching either. Alwaysbsomething new to learn will incorporate the lesson
Great video! Just wondering, I happened to find a website that seems like is your guys website but not sure if it is a scam version. Was looking to purchase the Diawa Saltist 20 but don't want to purchase it until I have confirmation that I am indeed on the official "The Saltwater Edge" website. If you have the time I would greatly appreciate you linking the official website to me. Thank you so much and have a great day.

Cool ❤
I noticed on the accurate 7 inch. The jaws are offset a little.
That's my name. Hehe. What a coincidence.
😂
I did not use wind-on leaders as I did not know what to do. EXCELLENT instructional video. Headed to my local tackle shop to buy some wind-on leaders!!!
Mine does not spin like that when applied, it is actually very tight? Would you know the reason why?
Strait forward and easy to understand. Thanks!
Thank you 👍🏽
i have a van staal vsx 200 and sometimes when i cast the roller will catch the line without me manually doing it it results like a closed bail how do i fix it?
You will want to make sure the spool is in the up position and the handle is in the down position, that should fix any issue!
@@SaltwaterEdge the roller still catches the line even when the spool is up and the handle is down idk what to do
Ok try making sure the line roller is on the left of the line when you cast. You may have to adjust where the line roller starts based on your casting style. Try a few different positions casting the same lure and you should find the sweet spot
@@SaltwaterEdge alright
@@SaltwaterEdge i feel like i cast like everyone else though just the avg backcast
US dollar price
for which one?
What Rod would you recommend for that stradic FM in a 3000 size?
The 3000 is a very lightweight reel so I would stick with a 7'-7'6" rod. It depends on the materials used in the rod's construction.
Very informative and thorough video. Thank you.
Screw this, just use mono and splice it to the braid using a Alberto knot.
thats one option!
Which casting rid you said up to 50lb which one do recommend 6 6 7 which Px
Great equipment overview. I’m fishing outside Tokyo in the Pacific for yellowtail, mahi, amberjack and tuna. Here, they generally recommend solid to split rings at the terminal end. I’m also using an fg knot on the leader (nylon or fluoro) and a Palomar or Centauri knot for the solid ring.
what is it really? colt sniper or current sniper? or it's just the same? box says coltsniper, but you keep saying current sniper. please clarify. thanks
Some of the older boxes still say coltsniper but the lure is now called the current sniper
@@SaltwaterEdge got it, thanks!
What do you think of the shimano slow J ttsjc66m
Bob Ross of Buck tails .👍
I have had 3 Van Staals and i will never buy another. They have discontinued the service kits and made getting parts too difficult. All links to kits and parts on their website are deactivated. I guess they think i'm dumb enough to give them another $800, because they made parts too difficult to get for the VS and VSX.Its sad how they are treating their customers.
You can always get in touch with us for parts, we can put together whatever you'd like for your reels to self service them.
@@SaltwaterEdge thanks, good to know i do have an option out there
Solid video! What sized ring and swivel for jig and pop?
Great job SWE Team presenting a wide range of pliers! Much appreciated.
Glad you liked it!
If the accuracy of your scales is + or minus 1g and your weighing 3g the accuracy is + minus a third. Thats not very accuate in my book.
Nice video, best of luck at the new location! Where is the new shop dog?
